What we do...
Forty-one years ago, in a modest University of Oregon-area house-turned-office, Direction Service was founded with a desire and a dream: To provide a place where people with disabilities and special needs would be treated with respect, dignity, and compassionate care, regardless of situation.

Today, Direction Service continues that legacy of service as a multi-program family support nonprofit located in Springfield, Oregon. Serving all of Lane County, we are now an independent, private, nonprofit organization funded through public and private donations, as well as local and federal support.

Your support made our Holiday Giving Tree possible—Thank you!
The first ever Holiday Giving Tree at Direction Service was a joyful success! Donations came in from so many Direction Service supporters, former and current clients, staff, local businesses, and first time Direction Service donors.

We even received a donation from a second grader who had worked to earn money specifically to purchase gifts for other children. The spirit of the season was truly evident in the generosity and care from the community to Direction Service clients!

Direction Service staff wrapped, bagged, and delivered over 160 items to 46 youth in 28 different families. Each of those youth’s holidays were made all the brighter. One of our staff members also shared that a family had just one gift under the tree for each child before the Direction Service gifts arrived.

Another family was in a lurch when they found out at the last minute that a referral for another giving program had not actually been made. Their Direction Service facilitator was able to quickly put together several gifts for two youths who, up until then, had none. In addition to gifts for the children in the family, Direction Service was able to provide a gift for a single mother who said she had not had a gift in 12 years. It was a particularly emotional season of delivering gifts and bringing holiday cheer to clients and families.

Direction Service is incredibly lucky to have such kind, generous supporters and community members. We want to extend a deep and heartfelt thank you to all who supported our 2017 Direction Service Holiday Giving Tree. Your caring was felt widely by staff and clients, and your goodwill will continue to impact countless lives well into the future.

Introducing our new monthly giving program: Direction Forward!
Since 1976, Direction Service has had a single and clear defining mission: Helping people with disabilities and special needs live full and healthy lives.

Today, we continue that legacy by introducing our new monthly giving program, Direction: Forward!.

Direction: Forward! is an opportunity to support the youths and families we serve by making convenient, incremental donations once per month.

Forty-one years of individual donations have helped to develop and sustain vital Direction Service programs, many of which are available to youth and families at no cost to them. Direction: Forward! is another avenue towards progress that will help those we serve find pathways toward happiness, stability, safety, and success.
