What we do...
Forty-one years ago, in a modest University of Oregon area house-turned-office, Direction Service was founded with a desire and a dream: To provide a place where people with disabilities and special needs would be treated with respect, dignity, and compassionate care, regardless of situation.
Today, Direction Service continues that legacy of service as a multi-program family support nonprofit located in Springfield, Oregon. Serving all of Lane County, we are now an independent, private, nonprofit organization funded through public and private donations, as well as local and federal support.

A Message from Aimee
Happy Spring! Direction Service has yet another exciting year in the works and we can't wait to share some developments with you.
Our work with the St. Vincent de Paul Youth House for unaccompanied homeless youth continues to be exciting and an amazing partnership. Direction Service has been honored to be involved in the development of the program and to provide wraparound support to the young women living there. It’s been almost a year since the first residents moved in! We have been grateful for some financial support of this project through the Oregon Community Foundation and the Eugene Metropolitan Rotary Club. Youth Advocates will help these youth achieve their goals, leading to long-term positive results.
We are pleased to announce that our national technical assistance center, CADRE, has just released their Working Together Online Learning Series. These courses provide families and educators with a number of strategies for working together and through conflict. Anyone supporting children or youth with disabilities may benefit from these courses, however, the setting in which collaborative problem solving and conflict resolution takes place within this series is typically the school or IEP meeting. If you haven’t already done so, please visit our Events page and learn more about our upcoming Leadership Breakfast on May 15th. Our team is working hard to put together a dynamic gathering! We will be highlighting many community partners and recognizing some incredible leaders for their work in our community. It will be a great time for connecting with one another and hearing more about the work of our programs. We hope you can join us!
While there is much to celebrate, there are also challenges our organization must navigate. Since the beginning of this school year our Youth and Family Services program has seen a sharp increase in the number of families seeking advocacy within the school system. As a result, we recently established a waiting list to manage this significant demand. We believe if families ask for help, it should be available to them. Asking families to wait for help is so difficult for us. We are working diligently to develop additional support to expand our capacity. We also welcome any financial support to help us shorten the wait time, and ensure families have the support they need to be safe, secure, and successful.
As always, our dedicated staff and Board of Directors continue to work hard to carry out our mission: Helping people with disabilities and special needs live full and healthy lives! Thanks, again, for your continuing support!
Introducing our new monthly giving program: Direction Forward!
Since 1976, Direction Service has had a single and clear defining mission: Helping people with disabilities and special needs live full and healthy lives.
Today, we continue that legacy by introducing our new monthly giving program, Direction: Forward!.
Direction: Forward! is an opportunity to support the youths and families we serve by making convenient, incremental donations once per month.
Forty-one years of individual donations have helped to develop and sustain vital Direction Service programs, many of which are available to youth and families at no cost to them. Direction: Forward! is another avenue towards progress that will help those we serve find pathways toward happiness, stability, safety, and success.
